PROFESSIONAL CAREER
Hand surgical practice alongside Professor. R.Venkataswami between 1992 and 1996, in Madras. This involved Major trauma including replantation, Elective surgery including Toe Transfers, Functional Muscle Transfers and Brachial Plexus Surgery. Management of Major Leg trauma formed a big part of the Work between 1996 and 2002 in Hull. During this period,Endoscopic Flap harvesting was a special interest. Evolved new techniques to harvest latissimus dorsi and gracilis muscle flaps. Established courses on Endoscopic flap harvest during this time.
He Was appointed as the First National Tutor at Royal College of Surgeons in 1998 and served in this role till 2005. Developed 20 courses at the college for Plastic Surgeons and many are still going on. Organised the 9th International Perforator course in 2003 at the RCS, London.
Pioneered the introduction of the Microsurgical breast reconstruction in the United Kingdom. Developed a busy microsurgical Breast reconstruction service at the St Andrews centre for Plastic surgery and Burns, between 2002 and 2020.
As the service director for St Andrews centre between 2003 and 2012, managed a budget of £40 million. Increased the consultant number from 7 to 16, added another operating room, developed an international profile of the unit with national and international meeting hosted at the centre, numerous international visitors, research projects and publications.
A keen interest in training has led to the Microsurgical Fellowship programme, which has been training two microsurgeons a year, over the past two decades. Today, there are past fellows from this programme, working as consultants in many units in the UK, Europe, Australia, India, Singapore, United States and New Zealand.
Initiated and established a microsurgical subcommittee in British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons.
